Shimada Nami

The prettiest girl in the world! Hey, my web site, my declaration! I rule here! Nami (real name: Naoko) debuted in 1986, a direct result of her winning the Momoco talent contest (along with her friend Tomomi Nishimura). Her first single was "Glass Fantasy" which was quickly followed by "Makenai de... Kataomoi", "Powder Snow" and "Free Balloon". She broke the top ten with "Uchiki na Cupid" and followed it quickly with a stronger hit "Pastel Blue no Tameiki" which stayed on the charts for several months and garnered her a sizable following. It was at this point in time that she started trying her hand at writing her own songs and wrote her first song "Twinkle Christmas", a cute little ditty that was popular with her fans.

Nami even had a small part in a TV drama (playing a schoolgirl of course), and produced 2 very cute commercials for Clearasil (I still haven't figured out the significance of the robotic owl...)

While she scored another top ten hit with "No", Nami continued writing songs and produced an EP titled "Via Air Mail" in which all songs were composed by her. The stand out song was "Tender Rain" which contained references to her favourite group, the Beatles.

Nami continued to have a modest string of top forty singles while developing her song writing talents and releasing the entirely self-penned albums "Everytime I Look at You" and "I Love You/You Do" which contained her last single "Motto, Zutto, I Love You". Well, actually, Nami's last song was on the soundtrack for "City Hunter '91". She gave her farewell concert in 1990. NAMI FOREVER!
